Builds Teams for Successfully Completed Projects

Dawn was Principal, Project Manager and Project Architect from contract, conceptual design, programming, construction documentation and on-site construction administration for the following select projects. Work performed prior to 2024, was completed while Dawn was Principal of Dorschner Associates.

Dane County Henry Vilas Zoo

2024 | Exhibit Expansion & Renovation

2017 | New Concessions Building

This new $2.2M building was swiftly well-built during the off-peak winter season. The sloped cantilevered roof forms and natural materials enhance the visitor experience with shaded outdoor seating viewing the flamingo exhibit and ice cream.  The detailing of the wood and masonry compressed the schedule and seamlessly provides connection between the interior and exterior.  Large scale operable wood windows made in Milwaukee provide access to daylight and take full advantage of natural ventilation.

2016 | Administration Building Envelope Improvements & On-site Renewable Energy

Dane County Human Services

2024 | Egress Code Evaluation

2017 | The Beacon

Complete design services for Madison’s first purpose-built Homeless Shelter. Pre-design services determined space needs and programming for site selection.  Construction documents and permitting included public presentations to gain support for the project to obtain a conditional use permit.  An October 2017 Wisconsin State Journal article reads ‘the renovation has dramatically transformed the building, with its broad windows, high ceilings and colorful finishes giving an airy, sunlit, modern feel.’  Another well-built 12,000 SF, $2.5M renovation with a project team dedicated to the mission of Dane County, Catholic Charities and partner agencies.

2016 | Lakeview Campus Plan

Space Planning for National Register listed 68,000 SF of office space.

State of Wisconsin

2012 | UW-Madison School of Human Ecology

$42.5M 87,000 SF addition and 75,000 SF renovation to the National Register Eligible historic building. A new universally accessible entrance addition known as ‘the link’ equitably locates department offices surrounding the daylight filled space.  Award-winning Rehabilitation and Compatible New Construction from the Madison Trust for Historic Preservation.  Upon its completion in 2012, the project earned LEED Gold Certification.  The project was designed by Dorschner Associates in association with Sasaki.

2012 | DOT State Transportation Office Building Pre-Design

Pre-Design services for the $150M State Transportation Building including Emergency Operations Command Center (EOC) and Department of Transportation–Statewide Traffic Operations Center (STOC).  The capital planning efforts for the $150M new office building were supported by this determination of space needs, cost estimate and alternative site plans for the redevelopment of the Hill Farms site in Madison, Wisconsin.  The pre-design study included evaluation of both new construction or renovation of an existing state-owned building to maximize the property to the fullest use and potential.
